Privacy policy

Effective: 27 October 2026

Manicule Reader ("Manicule", "the app") is made by Loon Shoot Pty Ltd, Australia ("we", "us").

The short version

Manicule does not collect, store or share any personal data. Your documents, the reflowed text made from them, your notes and your reading positions stay on your device.

What stays on your device

This is stored only in the app's private storage. It is included in your device backups according to your own backup settings, and is deleted when you delete a paper or the app.

On-device processing

Manicule reads PDFs with models that run on your device: Apple's text recognition and Apple Intelligence, and small layout and recognition models that ship inside the app. Speech uses the system's built-in voices. Your documents are never sent to us or to any server for processing.

The optional extended model

If you choose "Extended model experience", the app downloads a one-time model file (about 1.1 GB) from Hugging Face (huggingface.co). That request is a plain file download: it contains no document, account or identifier from us, though Hugging Face, like any website, sees the IP address making the request and its own privacy policy applies. The file is checked against a fixed checksum after download.

The built-in browser

"Add from a link" opens a web browser inside the app so you can sign in to sites you already use, such as a university library or journal, and save a PDF. The sites you visit receive your requests as in any browser, and their privacy policies apply. Cookies and sign-ins are stored on your device by the system web view. We do not see your browsing, your sign-in details or the files you download.

What we don't do

Children

Manicule is not directed at children under 13 and collects no personal information from anyone.

Changes

If a future version adds features that handle personal data, we will update this policy and the App Store privacy details before that version is released, and change the effective date.
